I was commissioned to provide artwork for Sheena Baharudin's second collection of poetry, 'All the Bodies We've Embraced' (Perfect Binding, 2017).

I worked closely with symbolisms from the manuscript and the poet's preference to centralize the image of an anatomical heart.

The whole process was done digitally, using Procreate and Adobe Photoshop. Here's the progress from rough sketch to the final artwork. Some revisions were required - the artwork for the back cover was moved inside the book, hands were added into the anatomical heart, and some tweaks were made to ensure the red background was neither too dark nor too bright when it went to print:

Digital painting - the final artwork was forwarded to the publisher for finalizing.
