With/In is a diptych digital painting published in Umbel & Panicle for their ninth issue, COROLLA featuring disabled artists, writers, and poets.

The paintings were made digitally on Procreate, inspired by the magazine's call for submission. I wanted to represent the realities of living with invisible disabilities, how having a support system (externally or from within) takes on a deeper sense of urgency when your body and its needs don't seem to match up with society's idea of 'functional.' On Umbel and Panicle, I provide some accompanying texts to share my context of this work.

The distance acts as a protection but also a necessity - many of us who live with disability do our best to be part of the world while navigating the distance wedged between us and society. Support - external or from within - is a crucial element.
